I find that other people tend to confide in me and seek my advice on current situations in their lives. People notice that overall I am a kind person that accepts anyone into my circle. I am easy to talk to, which reflects my ability to work well with others. My friends and colleagues know they can confide in me because I am loyal to them, keeping personal what needs to be kept personal. People who know me well know that I will do whatever I can to help them. I have their best interests in mind. I strive to do what I believe is ethically right, which means I am a hard worker: a responsible and dependable person. I believe I will be a great teacher because I have these attributes.
As a college student, I worked and collaborated with a many people on several projects and assignments including presentations or research and teaching new material to the class. I gave, throughout my college career, several presentations on a variety of subjects. Most presentations detailed research I was doing about a particular piece of literature I read for class.
Furthering my experience, I volunteered in an ESL college classroom as a tutor. I worked with students individually and in groups helping them learn English grammar and conversational vocabulary. I faced the challenge of explaining complex items in an understandable way. I enjoyed my time in this setting and desired to teach all that I could.
As a young college student, I worked in a store that sold emergency preparedness products. Costumers at the store often required assistance and education on purchases. I had the opportunity to educate customers about our products and help them make the best purchase for their individual needs concerning emergency preparedness. Through my willingness to help and educate customers, I was able to build confidence and boost the image of the company and bring customers back again. I learned how to answer customers’ questions or at least provide them with resources to learn more on their own. This job increased my desire to make teaching a career because of how much I enjoyed helping others.
After living for a couple of years in Mexico, I consider myself fluent in the Spanish language. I can comprehend what I read and am able to write in Spanish apart from speaking. Also, while living in Mexico, I served many people in a variety of projects, from making adobe blocks to family togetherness. I lived in rural and impoverished areas of Mexico, but I loved the simplicity and community of those places. From these experiences, I learned how to interact with diverse people and teaching skills that have prepared me to be a successful teacher.
